Oliver heads to Wisconsin

Add an assistant coach to the recruiting needs of Illinois State basketball coach Dan Muller this spring.

Dean Oliver, who has been on Muller’s staff the last three years, was named an assistant coach at Wisconsin on Thursday by Badgers head coach Greg Gard.

Oliver, 38, a former standout player at Iowa, primarily worked with the Redbird guards. He was instrumental in helping Paris Lee earn the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year awards this past season as the Redbirds set a school record for wins and shared the MVC regular-season title.

“Dean has been awesome,” said Muller. “It truly starts with what kind of person he is … the value he added with skill development and what he did with our guards we’ll miss.”
