Summers lands gig at James Madison

James Madison has hired Urbana University (Ohio) head coach Rob Summers to fill the open position on its basketball coaching staff, according to sources close to the program.

The 32-year-old Summers, who was the director of basketball operations at JMU during the 2013-14 season, met with JMU coach Louis Rowe on Friday and was offered the job earlier this week, sources said. He accepted the position Wednesday and is expected to be announced publicly today.

Summers declined to comment when reached Wednesday.

Summers will replace Mike Deane, who retired last month after more than 35 years as a college coach, including the last five as an assistant at JMU.
