Dooley set to interview at New Mexico

New Mexico dismissed head men’s basketball coach Craig Neal late on Friday evening, three weeks after AD Paul Krebs announced that Neal would be returning for the 2017-18 season. The Lobos finished 17-14 this season and failed to earn an NCAA Tournament bid for the third straight year.

Krebs is in Glendale, AZ, at the Final Four, which enables him to interview potential candidates this weekend because most every Division I coach is in town for the event. Krebs has started the process and will reportedly interview Florida Gulf Coast head coach and former Lobo assistant Joe Dooley on Sunday.

Dooley may be interested in returning to Albuquerque, where hoops fans are looking for a reason to be excited after the team has combined to go 49-45 over the past three seasons. After taking over for Andy Enfield, Dooley has led Florida Gulf Coast to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and four postseason tournaments in a row.
