Ballard leaves Pitt for VCU

The offseason defections for the Pitt men’s basketball team are not limited to the players.

Assistant coach Jeremy Ballard will leave Kevin Stallings’ staff to take on the same role at VCU, where he worked under Shaka Smart for three seasons from 2012-2015, according to sources. He spent 2015-16 with Illinois State before becoming part of Stallings’ inaugural staff with the Panthers.

Ballard, a 2003 graduate of Colgate, is an Atlanta native. At VCU, he will join the staff of new head coach Mike Rhoades, who was an assistant there with Ballard until becoming the Rice coach in 2014.
