The move to fire Lorenzo Romar and hire Mike Hopkins was a head versus heart decision for many Husky fans. The assistant coaching search has taken a similar approach as UW went for money over heart. And by that I mean UW was turned down by USC assistant Jason Hart and instead went with former-UW assistant coach and Seattle U head coach Cameron Dollar.Dawgman is reporting that Dollar has agreed to join the new coaching staff at UW although nothing has been finalized yet. Coach Hop turned to Dollar after Jason Hart decided to remain at USC. Hart, a former Syracuse player under Hopkins, was widely presumed to be a primary target for the job but decided to stay in L.A after thinking it over for several days.
For those who wanted to see a shake-up at the top, this move is sure to create mixed reactions. The initial view of the assistants was that retaining Conroy would maintain a connection to the city of Seattle while Jason Hart and Tim O’Toole would be familiar with Coach Hop’s vision and still provide west coast impact. Hopkins stated that his intention was to create an all-star team with that group. Now Hart is gone and while O’Toole appeared to be a done deal, the promotion of fellow Cal assistant Wyking Jones to the head man spot may be enough to convince him to stay.
