Walker out at Grambling

After leading Grambling State to its best season in nearly a decade, Shawn Walker will not be retained as men’s head basketball coach, HBCU Sports has learned.

Grambling spokesperson Will Sutton confirmed that Walker, who led the Tigers to a 16-17 record this season and a trip to the SWAC Tournament semifinals, was dismissed.

In a Facebook post, Walker detailed his departure from the program: “My time at GSU has come to an end. My contract is NOT being renewed and it’s time to start a new journey.”

Walker also wanted to reiterate that he was not at fault for the dismissal.

“And just to make things clear.. NOTHING happened,” he wrote. “I did nothing wrong… this was a decision made to just go in another direction. I thank all of the good folk at GSU and it’s community for an opportunity to serve in this capacity. I achieved quite a bit … and wish the new coach nothing but success. The business of college basketball has been good to me. 23 years. First time for everything.”
