Lorenzo Romar has been fired by the Washington Huskies after 15 years as the school’s men’s basketball coach, the Huskies announced Wednesday.
Romar’s Huskies finished this season 9-22 (2-16 Pac-12), and he leaves with a 298-195 record in Seattle. He took Washington to six NCAA Tournaments and two Sweet 16s, but UW has not been in the NCAA Tournament since 2011.
“After evaluating our men’s basketball program, I have determined that a change in leadership is necessary,” UW athletic director Jennifer Cohen said in a statement.. “Today is particularly difficult because Coach Romar is such a beloved member of our University community. I want to thank Lorenzo and his family for 15 years of dedicated service and sacrifice to our University.”
