Mike Rice candidate at Quinnipiac

Mike Rice Jr. — the head men’s basketball coach fired from Rutgers University in 2013 for abusing his players — will find out soon if he has been forgiven.

Rice, 48, is said to be a leading candidate for the newly opened head-coaching job at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut.

Quinnipiac fired Tom Moore this week after the former University of Connecticut assistant coach lost 21 games for the second straight season.

Rice has been coaching youth programs and at a New Jersey high school, itching to get back into the college game. According to insiders, he views Quinnipiac, a minor Division I school, as his first stepping stone.
