VA Tech hires Webster

Virginia Tech men’s basketball coach Buzz Williams found the right man Monday to be the Hokies’ newest assistant coach, hiring Christian Webster after a two-month search.

Webster replaces Isaac Chew, an ace recruiter and Williams’ top lieutenant who left Tech in May to take an assistant coaching position at Texas A&M. Webster arrives in Blacksburg after spending last season as a 25-year-old assistant coach at Central Florida.

Despite just three seasons of bench time in the profession, Webster still brings some intangibles that make him unique — established connections with coaches and players in his native Washington, D.C. area, and a degree and strong basketball-playing and coaching resume from Harvard.
